Oka is a Senior Paediatric Physiotherapist at Hauora Tairāwhiti and currently doing
this Masters of Physiotherapy at the University of Otago. Oka’s research has been
awarded with a Pacific Health Masters Scholarship from the Health Research
Council of New Zealand. The aim of his research is to explore culturally responsive
physiotherapy approaches to improve the health and well-being of Pacific children.
His goal is to construct a model of care and clinical guidelines for Physiotherapists
working with Pacific children in Aotearoa New Zealand. Oka is the Chair of the
Pasifika Physiotherapy Association and a trustee on the local Life Education Trust
Board. Oka provides a Pacific perspective to Ngā Māngai Māori team.
